Straightforward and elegant, filled with elaborate fight scenes that are designed to showcase highly skilled stuntmen while not diminishing Keanu Reeves’ contribution. This is a sequel that upgrades the original in every way and effortlessly demonstrates why Keanu is… well Keanu.
The character of John Wick draws from the actor’s personality in more ways than one could glance at a surface level. Which adds a layer to the movie not often seen in the action genre. I have to mention onscreen reunion between Keanu and his Matrix co-star Laurence Fishburn, who chews through their scenes in such a satisfying way that brought an unexpected smile on my face due to palpability of actor’s enjoyment.
During the final part, two things left a positive impression; I loved the gimmick of having only 7 bullets and being forced to continue picking up guns from fallen opponents as well as a visually elaborate homage to the final boss fight from Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon.
Unexpectedly satisfying and thoroughly enjoyable. I’m excited about Chapter 3.
