Bird Box (2019)

★★★½ Watched 11 Apr, 2020

A solid survivor thriller about a mother taking care of her two young kids amidst a unique alien monster invasion attacking a human mind through the eyesight.

The choice of jumping back and forth in between two points in time keeps the flow dynamic as we deduct some of the information about the plot from the scenes set in the future and wonder how they got there.

The sci-fi aspect is kept to the minimum with monsters only coming to life in our imagination. A very rare restrain shown in only a handful of similar movies. Which is usually dictated by the budget. Sandra Bullock who is also producing and John Malkovich in a typically meaty role brings the main gravitas to the limited cast of characters.

Now l need to see the similarly themed A Quiet Place (2018). A Hollywood doppelgänger that happens from time to time – two movies released the same year about the same main theme (Dante’s Inferno/Volcano, Bug’s Life/Antz, Armageddon/Deep Impact).
