★★★½ Rewatched 18 Dec 2022
Rewatching this Eddie Murphy classic after about two decades was an interesting experience. I didn’t recall a couple of bad performances (Foley’s boss) and how awkwardly a lot of the scenes played out (some intentional others not), but Murphy shines through all that with his signature natural bravado. You could see he was just warming up in this one.
To this day this movie about a fish out of the water, but not really, remains an unusual blend of character comedy and cop drama with a splash of action and a memorable 80s soundtrack.
P.S. I just found out Eddie recently completed filming the 4th film Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley almost 40 years since he stepped into those white sneakers!
